WHY are we emphasizing MARSHALING. We need more people in Memphis (especially folks with privilege) to help make our protests safer by putting their bodies in between danger and those most targeted by police brutality. We are using this form to create 2 lists: 1) Who is currently trained as a marshal and can step into this role in protests coming up. And 2) Who would like to be trained in marshaling and other roles in the movement. NEXT STEPS. After creating this list, we will be:

PREVIOUS TRAININGS
How to Show Up: White Folx in the Movement Training
As white people, we need to show up grounded in ourselves, reflective in our identity and having done the work to show up in the movement in a way where we are able to check our privilege. We have gotten feedback that white people have been stepping into important roles AND that white people have caused harm in the ways that we show up.
For this training we’ll offer time to reflect on what your role is as a white person in this movement for black lives. White people have been serving as medics, marshals, legal observers, media teams--in Memphis at this moment, how can white people show up effectively in those roles? What tools do you have to cope with and heal the trauma that accompanies your movement work? What do you want to say to other white people in the movement? Where do you need to grow in how you show up?
The training will include some gentle body work, reflection and processing tools, and accountability ideas for after the session. The training focuses on the patterns and experiences of white folx so we can more fully center black, brown, indigenous and Asian leadership in the movement going forward.
Wednesday, June 24th from 6-8pm on Zoom.
(100 person MAX - If we run out of space for this one, we will let you know and put you on a waiting list for the next one.)
